These are the last few hours to prepare for Sandy and I am in the DC area and it looks like we will be in the eye of the storm come Monday into Tuesday. So far I have seen neighbors raking up leaves trying to prevent the storm drain from backing up. Thankfully we have gutter buddies and a sump pump on our house so we don't have to worry about the leaves clogging up our gutters. However, if you don't have some sort of gutter protection on your home, get out there now and try to remove as many leaves as you can. For those who are not elevated you should move items from your basement or any area that may flood to a higher spot in your home. Water damage is not something you want to deal with ever especially when the electricity is out. We received an automated call from Pepco yesterday warning us of the coming storm and the possibility of mass power outages. That really doesn't help but, ok Pepco thanks for the heads up.

 As a busy, 30 something mother of 3 children, I find it hard to get out all the time (the children were with the grands). I do pride myself on being a woman of minimalism, and classic fashion. A pair of dark Skinny Jeans, topped with a White Tank Top and a Blue Quarter Sleeved Pinstripe Blazer. Finished off with a pair of Grey, Faux Suede Calf-high Winter boots with an Extra Large Bow was all I needed for a casual date night out with hubby. I accessorized with an Orange Bangle Bracelet for a hint of color. We went out to H Street in Washington, DC on Saturday night to a pub that serves my favorite beer, Chamay (very hard to find) and had a great night talking with the bartender about a vegetarian lifestyle and Fela Kuti.

After many years of being relatively quiet on the music scene. Brandy recently got back into the spotlight with the VH1 reality show Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business and on the BET show "The Game" as character Chardonnay. I was able to review the whole Deluxe Two Eleven CD on Spotify.

Brandy displays her vocal acrobats on the song "Wildest Dreams" and my favorite is the song "Do You Know What You Have". I like this one because, I believe that a lot of women know how it feels to sense that our significant other doesn't really know what they have. Most men don't realize what they have until it's gone or almost gone. It takes the women leaving or for someone else to show interest for some men to get it. Then it's an epiphany or they are "So Sick" to find out that things were not what they thought. A good reminder for men not get too comfortable and think it's all sweet. I'm just saying don't sleep and appreciate.

Mom's already have to do Everything for the family. So we hate to have to spell out what needs to be done to our husbands. I mean we multitask like no body's business and then we have to tell someone how to fit in. I'm not a child but, wah wah it's just not fair lol. No really, when do mom's get to be thought about first. Everything men do in this world is for the attention of the beautiful species of women.Yet, we are the first to be treated like second class citizens. By no means is it anything like it used to be but, that's not saying much.  One would never want to go back to those days. However, it would be nice to go back to the days of women being queens and being treated as such. Women deserve to be treated like an Egyptian queen not only because we are but, because we treat our men like a King and our babies like the little royalty they are.

So the other day I got a random text from my cousin Charmaine, who said that she absolutely hates her Genie bra. I LOVE mine on a whole different level, I received the Genie bra from my grandmother a year or so ago. I must admit at first when she mentioned having some bras for me I was skeptical. I recall one time that I went to visit my sister and her husband in NY. I was leaving out to get some luggage and my then baby started to chase after me crying. They had a look of, why the heck is she doing that on their faces. I know that they were not trying to be mean or anything like that. It's just that when you don't have babies or children. Heck, even when you do have children and they are not in the same phase as other children you tend to have a lapse in memory. No one wants to see or hear a baby cry. It's just human nature to react how you would. Anyway, trust me they are now the proud parents of 3 beautiful children. They have a new understanding and perspective to say the least. Another time, we also went to a nice little Peruvian restaurant for dinner near their neighborhood.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mom's are often the caregivers of the whole household and over time they lose themselves in the everyday shuffle of being a mom. We can tend to forget about ourselves and put our concerns last just due to a lack of time. 

So the fact that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month should help us to remember to take care of ourselves and our health should be a top priority. I'm not saying we have to run out and get a mammogram, because not all of us are even at that particular age. 

However, I am urging all women to take an assessment of their overall health and well being by scheduling that doctors appointment we've been putting off because we are always making them for the children and sometime just get tired of seeing the inside of a doctor's office. 

Take stock of the way you are eating and make a "diet" lifestyle plan for the whole family. This is a good time to start a workout regimen even if it is only 20 mins of time playing the Wii fitness. Walk to school in the morning or to pick up in the afternoon instead of driving if you can.

In this day and age it's hard to have a completely private life, especially if you are someone who is trying to stay actively social and relevant. I remember when I was a party promoter some years ago and there was no Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. You actually had to use a dial up internet connection, possibly with the AOL disk, to send out mass emails to the people you wanted to reach or call everybody the week leading up to the event (which is still a pretty good practice if you ask me). However, now all you have to do is get a following on any of the social media and create an event to market and capitalize on.

How does one maintain womanhood and motherhood while making it look good? It's not an easy task to keep the balance in a busy life of working, children, relationships, and playing. There are a few women that are cut from a different cloth that have mastered the art of being a Hip Mommy Chick. The art of living life to the fullest while staying exceptionally fly is what "that chick" does. She is the one that can wake up and cook breakfast for the kids, do hair, make the lunches and still get to her grind right on time (sometimes late). She is the baddest "chick" at the PTO and at the club with her man. She doesn't let being a mom get in the way of her being herself and getting it all accomplished. A lot of women sacrifice all of their time to their children and mate and find that 10 years later they forgot who they are or were and have lost their true essence.
