RECALLS

We know how important it is to be in the know, but also not have the time to keep up with things. You will find Recalls of Vaccines, Toys, Medications, Clothes, Cars, and whatever may be helpful in your daily life. Feel free to share these Recalls as they can be beneficial to others.

Kolcraft
Just an FYI mama's and papa's. Kolcraft is recalling more than 96,000 Jeep Liberty strollers due to a tire malfunction. The inner tube of the tire on the stroller can rupture causing the wheel rim to fracture and fly off as a projectile.

The strollers were recalled on June 19, 2013. The recall includes Jeep Liberty branded strollers with model numbers starting with JL031, JL032, JL034, JL035 or JL036 manufactured between June 2010 and September 2011.  The model number and date of manufacture are printed on a white tag on the rear upper center of each seat back pad.

Quite the History This is the second recall for Kolcraft this month. The first being the Contours Option stroller recalled due to fingertip amputation and laceration hazards.

Just this March, Kolcraft agreed to pay a
$400,000 civil penalty and to implement robust changes to it's internal control and compliance systems. This was in response to the CPSC recieving more than 350 reports of a defect in one of their play yards. The play yard collapsed and injured children from 2000-mid 2009.

All I have to say is "Get it together Kolcraft." The safety of the youngins should always be top priority.

Chrysler
It's just not a good week for Chrysler Jeep. Earlier in June the National Highway Traffic Administration formally requested that Chrysler recall up to 2.7 million Jeep Grand Cherokees and Jeep Liberty SUV's. At the time Chrysler refused to initiate the recall, however last week the auto maker initiated a safety recall of more than 1 million Jeep SUV's.

Chrysler disputed the governments findings, saying in a release that those vehicles met or exceeded the federal safety standards at the time of manufacture.

It looks like they decided it was cheaper to recall, than to run expensive ad campaigns to convince worried drivers.

Get it together Chrysler!

Stride Rite
About 7,500 of the "Joanna" girls sandals have been recalled due to a choking hazard. The name “Joanna,” the style number CG40723 (white shoe) or CG40725 (brown shoe) and the size are printed on the underside of the front shoe strap.  “StrideRite” appears on the bottom of the shoe.

The firm has received 6 reports of the flower detaching and 11 of the flower loosening.

I say good job on being reactive and getting the word out early Stride Rite.

CPSC to Sue Maker of Nap Nanny Recliner

Retailers to recall over 150,000+ Baby Recliners. Sold at the retailers Amazon.com, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby, Diapers.com, and Toys "R" Us/ Babies "R" Us between 2009 and 2012. All of the retailers have agreed to recall the Nap Nanny at the request of the CSPC.

As of December 5, 2012 the CPSC has filed a complaint (after a 3-0 Commission vote) against the manufacturer Baby Matters, LLC, of Berwyn, Pa., the manufacturer of Nap Nanny® and Nap Nanny Chill™ infant recliners. A recall plan could not be reached with the manufacturer and Nap Nanny's owner and founder, Leslie Gudel denies the allegations and says the product is safe when used properly- on the floor and using the harness. The company has since gone out business due to the ongoing battle with the CSPC she also states.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is aware of four infants who died in Nap Nanny Generation Two recliners and a fifth death involved the Chill model. CPSC has received a total of over 70 additional incident reports of children nearly falling out of the product.

In July of 2010 announced a voluntary recall of 30,000 Nap Nanny® portable baby recliners when a report of  4-month-old girl from Royal Oak, Mich. who died in a Nap Nanny® that was being used in a crib. At that time, the CPSC and the firm have received 22 reports of infants, primarily younger than 5-months-old, hanging or falling out over the side of the Nap Nanny® despite most of the infants being placed in the harness. One infant received a bruise as a result of hanging over the side of the product.

The recent complaint filed would force Baby Matters, LLC to inform the public of the defect and offer a full refund. I wonder how the CPSC monitors the aforementioned requirements, if at all and how are the refunds accounted for? Something to think about I guess. Hopefully, the issue is resolved and no other innocent babies and families have to suffer as a result. Will the families be filing their own lawsuits? For the families that lost their babies or any babies that were harmed. My heart goes out to you

To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury, go online to: SaferProducts.gov, call CPSC's Hotline at (800) 638-2772 or teletypewriter at (301) 595-7054 for the hearing and speech impaired. Consumers can obtain this news release and product safety information at www.cpsc.gov.

Mitsubishi Motors Inspected over Recalls

It seems like this inspection is long over due and the need for transparency is the obvious solution. What will come from these inspections? Regulations, fines, what should we as the consumer expect? Read more for the Full Report

"The automaker has come under fire more than once for covering up consumer claims about potential defects since 2000. In July 2000, the company admitted covering up claims from consumers by offering repairs privately for around 30 years."

General Motors Recalls Nearly 150,000 Trucks

The automobile giant announced a massive recall today due to the potential for the hood on the vehicles to suddenly fly open and block the view from the windshield. This type of potential danger has caused the car manufacturer to jump on this immediately. Apparently the hood on these vehicles lacks a secondary latch.

The models that are affected by this GM recall include Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks manufactured from 2010 to 2012 according to Law Firm JD Supra Legal News

A welding error by a supplier has forced the recall of 119,000 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks from the 2010 through 2012 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration. Most of the models in question were sold somewhere in North America. That includes 118,000 trucks sold in the United States, more than 15,000 sold in Canada and nearly 7,500 units that were sold in Mexico. Owners are encouraged to take their vehicles to the nearest dealership to have them inspected for a secondary latch. Those models that are missing this latch will have one installed free of charge.
